Almost ready, I swear.

Sorry for the lag in blogging over the past few weeks. It's not even that I'm too busy this time, it's just that I've cooked exactly twice since the halibut post (grilled cheese with tomato soup and penne with jarred tomato sauce, though that hardly counts as cooking). I am nearly over my first trimester and should be getting back to normal very soon. God, I hope so.

People are always interested to know what a foodie craves when she is pregnant. "God, what does Heather crave," people ask Scott. Well not much, I'm sad to say, not yet anyway. Here is some of what I've eaten over the past few weeks:

  • 1.5 pints of Haagen Daaz strawberry ice cream (last night with those chewy chocolate crinkle cookies - a winning combination)
  • about a pound of Jelly Bellys, opting alternately for Juicy Pear and Black Licorice (but gah, not together - gross - I'm not an animal)
  • a corn dog from a questionable gas station deli in BFE
  • a piece of supreme pizza from a questionable gas station deli in BFE
  • a cucumber and chili Mexican frozen popsicle ("paleta")
  • ham and cheese hot pocket (whole wheat! it's good for the baby)
  • Nong Shim Kim Chee bowl noodle spicy taste good job
  • 2 cans of Spaghettios in cheese sauce
  • approximately 4 chili dogs (with the cheese and onions) and tater tots
  • tuna salad sandwich on a non-sick day
  • 3 cantaloupes, salted, each eaten entirely in one sitting
  • 5 pints of strawberries, eaten over the sink
  • 4 mangoes, salt and peppered
  • 10 or 20 apples, sometimes with salt, sometimes with cheese
  • a half a giant tub of Carnation Instant Breakfast (chocolate) with 1% milk - usually the first thing in my stomach in the morning
  • three bowls of pho
  • a half a Hawaiian-style pizza with green peppers
  • three servings of pasta with red sauce (nothing fancy)
  • iceberg lettuce with ranch dressing (a healthy "salad"!)
  • a giant bowl of radishes with salt
  • Ethiopian food (the lentils were the craving, and sticking with vegetarian was a really good choice for me)
  • 2 breakfast burritos
  • 3 of those mini boxes of cereal from the variety pack: Corn Pops, Rice Krispies and Crispix (I foolishly let Scott have the Fruit Loops)
  • a movie-size box of Hot Tamales
  • a movie-size box of Junior Mints
  • approximately 5000 Cliff Bars (while in the field)
  • a 6" veggie sub with extra pepperoncini
  • 10 bottles of Reed's ginger beer
I guess that's enough confession. Try not to judge me. Progesterone's a helluva drug.

First trimester... whatever you can keep down is damned good enough! Second trimester, my appetite came back with a vengeance, hehe.

Looking forward to more posts from you, both on the pregnancy & food fronts!

God damnit, Heather. Now, *I* feel a little queasy. I can smell the Spaghettio's from here. [hand over mouth]

Wow really? I have no idea. Maybe I should get pregnant then. Well, I might be too old... mmm... maybe not!
Stay well,

All very healthy for the psyche.

But, um, where's the bacon!

Oh i LOVED this post, so funny! And for the record, my first pg, I lived on Hot Tamales and Sprite...what it does together in your mouth...MAGIC!

This is so funny! Those chili dogs sound really good right now. But so does that Hawaiian pizza...

Lucky you to have access to edible mangoes and cantaloupe and strawberries! Do you usually eat fruit with salt and pepper or is this a special preggie thing?

I knew I was pregnant with my second when I went into a 7-Eleven and thought the "nachos" with the electric yellow cheese looked tasty. The only thing I craved all pregnancy was citrus. I drank enough limeade to keep Paul Newman in business. You should have it easier from here on out.

i'm thirsty - that paleta sounds really good right now. veggie subs are my favorite, and unfortunately essentially non-existent in CT, unless you want roasted mushy veggies which is no veggie sub in my opinion. apparenty fresh veggies don't exist, nor do good soft sub rolls.

juicy pear jelly bellys are my fave! those and (gasp) buttered popcorn.

Just so you know.
Thanks!

When I was pregnant in the last stages I craved Big Macs. My daughter has never eaten anything from McDonalds...I think she had a lifetime supplyand was turned off in the womb:D

With my son (1st pg) I NEEDED the carnitas taco plate from Ole Mexico. He loved them when he started solid food. Of course now he'd probably try to jump out of his chair trying to get away from them.

With my daughter I can't even remember. We were so busy with our son & his heart stuff that I'm lucky she doesn't just crave hospital food. Actually, she can't go a day without an apple so maybe that was what I craved. Hmm.

I finally tried the Reeds & love.it. I tried the regular/original/whatever-it's-called and the premium ales. Quite nummy. Ready to try the beer!

Almost forgot to mention that I voted for you over on the Blogger's Choice Awards! Wo0t!

During my last pregnancy I craved Root Beer Floats, grapefruit, Wendy's chocolate Frosties, and Reuben sandwiches. Whatever makes your tummy feel better!

By the way, you have an incredible memory for the food you ate. I enjoyed reading your list very much.

Oddly enough, the radishes with salt is the most appealing to right now. wtf?

Wow, gourmet preggo grub at it's finest! So glad I don't have to go there no more!

Okay, I'm trying to drill into my head that this was consumed over the span of a few weeks :) I'm getting palpitations just looking at the list! But you are entitled, love-- just be careful with those questionables!

Tatiana - I'm really looking forward to eating and cooking normally again.

Syd - There's something about that sickly sweet sauce that I just wanted so badly.

Elra - You don't have to be pregnant to enjoy a corn dog!

Nikki - I have only had food poisoning once in my life. /knocks on wood

Don - The smell of bacon makes me sick right now. It's quite the ironic twist of fate.

Brittany - I'm gonna hunt down the Cinnamon Jelly Bellys because they're like tiny, tender Hot Tamales.

Chrystal - Chili dogs are one of my favorite things anyways, so they've been extra nice.

Alicia - Yeah, I'm only one state away from Mexico (and next door to California), so we get pretty good produce on the off-season.

Dana - Uh, I've always craved those nasty nachos. Now I still do, but try to resist.

B - It was actually a bit too salty. I woulda like pineapple more, I think.

Natasha - I think I squealed a little when I saw that New Seasons sells Juicy Pear separately so you can get a whole bag of them.

Aisha - Are you announcing your pregnancy on my blog? :D

Valli - Luckily, we have a great burger chain here that will hopefully hit the spot should I ever need a burger.

Kyouell - Reed's ginger beer is the perfect remedy to a sick stomach. It's nice and spicy, and the perfect amount of sweet. The shit by the Ginger People tastes like old, moldy ginger.

Melissa - I'm still a little paranoid to eat a Reuben, but I could wreck a grapefruit right now.

Jude - Radishes are so fresh and crispy and watery and spicy. They make me burp a lot if I eat too many, though.

LaDue & Crew - Yes, truly a feast fit for kings. Especially the Junior Mints.

Marky - Yes, there were plenty of healthy times sitting down to a huge bowl of crudites or just eating tangerines. Ew, I almost forget to mention linguine with clams. Gross.

All things considered those cravings are quite normal. I crave half that stuff a lot of the time and I'm most decidedly not pregnant.

You haven't said pickles and ice cream yet. I think you're doing fine. So do weird cravings fade afte the first trimester? Will I not see a pickle and ice cream dish in your blog now?

OH man, I am knocked up too, and I think I have eaten 90% of these things in the last few weeks also!

man, it is different when you see in put down!

Shameful confession: I have always liked spaghettios. But just the original kind. Cheese sauce and meatballs don't count.

Here's the deal. You are eating for two. And if you don't eat, you are not eating for two... or even one.
So eat what you like to eat.
Happy next 'mester.

OMG. You're pregnant! So that's what happens when I spend some time offline...

Seriously - congratulations! And order in some more ice cream. And invite me round. ;-)

OMG.The baby made you eat some of that stuff and you lived to tell!

I ate tater tots. And millions of oranges. And apples with cheddar cheese. And pizza rolls. And I had to have milk every morning, first thing as I stepped out of bed practically, with one scoop chocolate Ovaltine and 2 scoops of the Ovaltine Malt... only I wouldn't stir the malt and it would settle to the bottom and I'd suck up the chewy bits with my straw. Oh yum.

By the way... just a heads up for when you have the kid... You'll feed them your homemade goodies and they'll eat them just fine and you'll brag about how your kid eats fish and greens and whatever else other people's kids won't touch but then there will come a day when it all comes to a screeching halt for no apparent reason, and then through no fault of yours, you'll end up with a kid who won't eat anything other than pizza and french fries. I don't know why it happens, but it does.

I may be having sympathy pregnancy cravings, but I am craving some of your pickles. You should be on the verge of the fabled pregnant woman's "glow". Hope your next 6 months is enjoyable.

Ha, ha, ha. I laughed so hard reading your list of foods that you have ate in your 1st trimester because I was the same way. I could not get enough food those first few weeks, I was always right on the brink of starvation!!! Look forward to trimesters 2, 3, and 4!! Best to ya!
