Sweet Black Sesame Butter

Smear this on a toasted (and buttered) English muffin with strawberry preserves or marmalade. Imagine sweet tahini, but black. It's like Taiwanese Nutella, or a non-grainy adzuki paste. I bet it'd be great rolled up in some strudel dough with pears and a little cinnamon.

Is the black sesame drop holding the white head of ???

This is very cool. I'll have to check for it at our local Asian groceries.

Mm, something to look out for! Michael, I think that is a sugar cube. He made friends with it to produce the butter :)

You know, they sell a similar thing over here in Japan, but every time I walk past it in the grocery aisle, I cringe at the price - about US$6 for a tiny tiny tiny wee jar. And I mean minuscule. Looks yummy, though.

Alicia - I bet you could take two little biscuits and make a little sandwich cookie.

Petah - I just bought it because the tube was so cute. Good thing I liked the taste!

Chrystal - Especially if the aisle is in an ethnic grocery store.

Claire - Yes, yes it is. Sweet sesame death.

Michael - It's a piece of bread, silly! He will smear the butter on the bread face and eat it.

Jen - It's so much handier than peanut butter to spread. In fact, I don't know why they don't put peanut butter in a tube.

Marky! - You're so cute! You should write a story about the sesame seed man and the sugar cube.

Abigail - Everything in Japan is crazy expensive except the seafood, amirite?

Oh man, I think that lil' animated sesame seed could be a candidate for my next tattoo!
Wonder if I could find that stuff up here...

How fun! Where can I get some? Is it sweet like peanut butter or more like tahini?

Ken Albala said...

Now THAT looks seriously sick and lovely. You suppose it doubles as some kind of kinky black love paste?

Oh my - I totally need to do something w/that product - I've got a few idea!

Charity - I'd taste it before I burned its homage onto my skin, but that's just me.

Toni - They're like candy stores for grown-ups!

Rachel - It's worth a look around. I love this stuff.

Lo - I'm your mama, I'm your daddy, I'm that nigga in the alley.

B - It so totally is.

Sketti - Not to dash hopes, but I couldn't find it anywhere online, either. I would've like to've included a link to where one can procure some.

Leigh - It's always nice to buy something for the cute packaging and then have it actually taste good.

Jackie - It's sweet like peanut butter! I think you can find it at any well-stocked Asian grocery, probably one with a Japanese focus.

Ken - Or caulk, I'd hazard.

Amy - It tastes like sweet, black peanut butter, but a little more sesame-ish.

Darius - If you find some, let's see those ideas!

If it didn't have english on it, I'd think this was a tube of crude oil.

Hmm... This paste is something that I've haven't seen in Taiwan. Interesting~ But then again, I eat out so often in Taiwan that I rarely look for these thingies in the supermarkets. LOL...

Toodles~
