Ennui.

I haz it. It's not you, I swear. It's me.

As you have perhaps noticed, my blogging has been languishing for the past few weeks, and I think I'm just getting burned out on the Everything. Playing Folklore on the PS3 is giving me more excitement than telling you all about what I made for dinner (politely overlooking the music in that trailer, which sounds like an excrutiating Japanese Coheed and Cambria). So I'm taking a wee break until I get my groove back.

In other news, I'm in Sacramento until Friday. Not really any earth-shattering cuisine here, but the weather's nice and the hotel offers free cocktail hour in the lobby.

I planted my corn and artichokes last weekend. While getting ready for the airport yesterday, I looked out the window in time to see a couple of scrub jays going to town on the corn seed. They probably think they're entitled, since they put all those nice acorns in my garden. I'd send my cats out after the little motherfuckers, but my cats are afraid of corvids. Can't say I blame them - crows and jays are as clever as they are irreverent.

Hi Heather,
I know it is tough to be as prolific as Stephan King, but hang in there. I am tagging you for a MEME, but only because I really like your writing...and cooking.

Take the time you need. It can become consuming. But I'd rather you fresh and vibrant with great zingers than a fatigued Heather.I'll be checking in from time to time to see if your back home.

Sometimes, we all need a break. This blogging thing is a tough job and we don't even get paid for it! Posting, commenting, networking - it is a lot of work. I have to step back and turn off the computer myself every so often. Enjoy your time off and come back soon!

How very dare you?

Blog I tell you. Blog, blog, then blog some more. You have readers goddammit. How can you abandon us like cutesy puppies in a scary meadow full of drooling corvids?

Oh bugger it... ;)
Have a break, grow things, drink many many free cocktails, get your mojo back. We'll still be here when you do!

That's fine. Go ahead. Take some time off; you deserve it. It's not like there are hundreds of us out here who will be wearing our fingers down to nubs hitting the "refresh" button while we cry bitter, lonely tears and sink ever deeper into the pits of our own lameness without you to cheer us up and distract us momentarily from the howling vortex of existential dread that is our life.

Oh, and take a sweater. You never know.

take a break to get your mojo back it's important to rejuvenate when feel burned out. i kinda get what you mean, though... when the blogging starts to feel more like a job (ie: chore) and less like a hobby, it's time to take a breater.

and you know what, i've totally noticed that you've been a bit more absent - but that's a good thing, i love reading your posts and they make me laugh. to add humor in regards to food is rare in this blog world.

take your break and when you're ready, come back!!!!!!

my guess, a bit of time off, growing your own food and the weather of the spring and summer months can bring lots of energy. that's what i'm thinking for myself.

Hope your break helps. Life sure is busy and this does take up so much time doesn't it? I will be patiently waiting for the return of the Heather we have all come to love!

I listened to the Coheed and Cambria music video
and damn if they don't sound eerily like a band from my era-RUSH

(Well, at least to me they do).

A rest is good for the brain...take a chill pill and come back roaring. We and you will appreciate it more.

Heather, take your break and I'm sure eventually you'll come back with even grander ideas and posts. We'll be here waiting for ya.

I don't blame you. I've been kind of tired lately, too. It doesn't take that long to post, it's just that it takes so long to read all of the blogs.

You can still post random stuff on here! I love that.
I wonder if Sacramento has a specialty?

Get some fresh air guapa!!! Let us know when you come back :D.

It's a bit hard to be up there all the time... being ingenious, cooking fantabulous meals, reading all other blogger's posts... Take it easy, find your own rhythm and stick there and enjoy it... sorry here showed my mom's bossy character, ups!

Oh goody, I'm not the only one having a break. I'm pretending to enjoy my lame posts about food I ate. I'd rather be traveling for work than to lie in wait for an illness to pass. Drink a cocktail for five for me, ok?

Well rats that I didn't see this earlier, I'd have given you some dining tips in my neighborhood (I work several days each week in Sacramento and we do have a few good spots where I live). Ah well, hope you are enjoying the break.

Funny, my 12 year old son has the word "Ennui" on his spelling test this week.
Is this a coincidence or is his teacher a fan of your blog?
In Sacramento you might try Biba:

Everyone takes time off. Some of us just don't even bother to announce it! I've been posting less because I've been busy with other things, but this food blogosphere is filled with the most forgiving people! We'll all be here for you when you get back.
